More Job Cuts Come Despite Federal Stimulus Funds2010-06-25Despite federal stimulus education funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), school districts across the nation are expected to continue to lay off record numbers of teachers and support personnel for the 2010-11 school year. That's according to a report that analyzed survey results of school superintendents which was recently released by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA).The Projection of National Education Job Cuts for the 2010-11 School Year estimated that 275,000 education jobs could be cut next school year, representing 92% of the 300,000 education jobs saved by ARRA. In addition to teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria, maintenance workers, and administrative staff will be directly affected. Also, more than half of the 1,479 school administrators in 49 states who participated in the survey said that their districts are expected to freeze hiring.
